Built by Emperor Hadrian who visited Britain and started it in 122AD, the wall is one of the most famous and awe-inspiring monuments in the world.

Kendal Castle is in the southernmost parts of Eden, dominating the town from its glacial hill. The Castle is certainly medieval and it is not known whether it was actually there when William Marshall was granted custody of Heloise (or Hawise) the heiress.

The castle had a gentle history and was not seriously involved in any of the great struggles, but the last of Henry VIII’s wives, Katherine Parr, came from here (of course for our purposes influenced by the spectral ladies of Eden!).
Now the castle slumbers above the town, which was known for its Kendal Green cloth and is the administrative centre for the Westmoreland region today.

Nothing much remains of Liddel Strength on the borders by Liddel Water, but it is here that, according to the Annales Cambriae was fought the Battle of Arfderydd in 573, where King Guendolou and his clan were killed and his bard Merlin Wilt went mad.

This Merlin may or may not be connected to the Merlin of Arthurian legends but it is a strong piece of Celtic folklore. The present earthworks are mostly Norman and medieval.
In our story Merlin, who is the Arthurian Merlin, recovers in Eden thanks to the healing of the Spectral Ladies and the Power of Eden.
